More information

NR – Natural Rubber

Natural rubber is a linear polymer with long chains of cis-1,4-polyisoprene, of natural origin. Vulcanizates exhibit high tear and burst resistance, elasticity, and good resistance to low temperatures. Natural rubber-based gum is primarily used where vibration damping is required. Moreover, rubber offers high fatigue resistance, enabling its use in suspensions for various types of vehicles, as well as in tires and conveyor belts.

EPDM – Ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber

EPDM rubber is a terpolymer obtained from ethylene-propylene-diene monomers. It is a crosslinked elastomer in the sulfur or peroxide vulcanization process. EPDM exhibits very good resistance to atmospheric conditions, including ozone, and resistance to the effects of water, acids, and bases. It possesses excellent electrical insulating properties. Hence, it has found application in manufacturing window seals for automotive and construction sectors, electrical cable sheathing, and roofing materials.

Isoprene rubber – IR

Isoprene rubber is formed by polymerizing isoprene with a 92-98% content of the 1,4-cis structure. It is chemically similar to natural rubber. Its vulcanizates exhibit properties similar to natural rubber but with slightly greater thermal resistance. It has been widely used in the industry for manufacturing tires for heavy-duty vehicles, drive belts, and pharmaceutical articles.

Chloroprene rubber – CR

CR stands for chloroprene rubber, also known as Neoprene®. It is a chloroprene polymer and one of the first synthetic rubbers. It is distinguished by its exceptional ozone resistance. It also shows resistance to atmospheric conditions and numerous chemical compounds. It is also flame-resistant. It boasts good mechanical properties and a broad range of working temperatures. Due to its properties, it is commonly used in various industries and applications including hoses, cable covers, seals, V-belts, and adhesives.

Nitrile rubber – NBR

Nitrile rubber (NBR) is a product of free-radical emulsion copolymerization of butadiene with acrylonitrile. The acrylonitrile content in the rubber can range from 17% to 50%. Increasing the acrylonitrile content enhances the rubber’s resistance to oils and aliphatic solvents, as well as its resistance to thermal aging, albeit at the cost of reduced elasticity and diminished resistance to low temperatures. Vulcanizates of nitrile rubber are characterized by high elasticity, tear strength, low permanent deformation under compression, and resistance to oils. Its main applications include seals, hoses, membranes, and footwear.

Halo butyl rubbers – CIIR, BIIR

Chlorobutyl rubber (CIIR) and bromobutyl rubber (BIIR) are produced by chlorinating or brominating butyl rubber (IIR) with a degree of unsaturation of at least 1.8 mol%. The chlorine or bromine content in CIIR or BIIR ranges from 1.1% to 1.3%. In addition to the standard properties of butyl rubber (IIR), halobutyl rubbers are distinguished by better vulcanization parameters. Moreover, they can be blended with other types of rubber. Chlorobutyl rubber (CIIR) and bromobutyl rubber (BIIR) are used similarly to butyl rubber (IIR). They are employed in construction as well as in the production of tires, inner tubes, and many other rubber components. They are also used for seals and insulators. Due to their high temperature resistance, they are used in the production of hoses for hot fluids. They exhibit high processing properties.

Styrene-butadiene rubber – SBR

Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) is a copolymer obtained from two monomers, styrene and 1,3-butadiene, through low-temperature emulsion polymerization, based on a blend of fatty acid and resin soaps. They contain approximately 23.5% chemically bound styrene. SBR rubbers are used in the production of rubber compounds, manufacturing of car tires and inner tubes, conveyor belts, hoses, cables, footwear, and various technical rubber articles.
Rubbers with a light stabilizer can be used in compounds for contact with food and drinking water.

Butadiene rubber – BR

Butadiene rubber (BR), is made of the basic units (mers) of butadiene. They can be connected to each other by linear bonds of type 1,4 as well as type 1,2. The vast majority of butadiene rubbers (BR) are polymerized using organometallic catalysts. It is characterized by high elasticity, abrasion resistance, very good properties at low temperatures. BR is almost never found in pure form, but almost exclusively in compounds with other rubbers. It is used as an ingredient in NR, SBR compounds for tires, belts, molded products for the automotive industry.

Epichlorohydrin rubber – ECO

Epichlorohydrin rubbers are polymers or copolymers of epichlorohydrin and ethylene oxide. These rubbers are cured with metal oxides or metal salts with the addition of diamines or ethylene thiourea. ECO rubbers are characterized by flexibility at low temperatures, good resistance to mineral oils and ozone. In addition, resistance to alkalis and acids and low gas permeability. They have found use in the manufacture of fuel and oil hoses, diaphragms, seals and other products resistant to oil, fuel and weather.

Ethylene-acrylic rubber – AEM

Ethylene-acrylic rubber is a blend of ethylene polymer and methyl acrylate with a small admixture of carboxyl cross-linked monomer. Ethylene acrylic rubber has extremely high resistance to ozone and oxygen. It is also resistant to oil. It is also resistant to water up to 100 °C, acid and alkaline solutions, and glycols. It also features heat resistance up to 150 °C. It is short-term resistant up to 175 °C. Its flexibility varies at temperatures depending on its application: from about -30 °C to -40 °C. Chloro-sulphonated polyethylene – CSM

CSM is obtained by sulfonating polyethylene. Crystalline polyethylene is converted to amorphous polyethylene by introducing chlorine in amounts ranging from 25 to 45%. Chlorosulfonated polyethylene, is an elastomer used in a wide range due to many of the following properties – good behavior over a wide temperature range (from -40 to +135 °C) has very good mechanical properties, very good ozone and weather resistance, good chemical resistance especially to oxidizing and corrosive agents, very good flame resistance and good dielectric properties. Compounds based on CSM elastomers are mainly used in manufacturing sectors such as automotive, electrical engineering, construction and cables. Among the most typical products are: hoses for transporting aggressive inorganic chemicals, insulation lagging, impermeable membranes for lining tanks and covering roofs, conveyor belts for minerals, extruded profile seals for the construction industry.
